Your perspective or Mine?

Rendering Perspectives

Interior Rendering

we were given a draft of a two point perspective Interior space with a mezzanine floor which needed to be redrawn by designing the area.
I tried to recreate the space given as an art gallery with paintings and sculptures.
Interior rendering
The drawing was needed to be rendered in pencil colour. I received a B grade and was asked to control the colour scheme.
I have used too many different colours for the interior of the space.

Perspectives of Design

For our last assignment in Design communication class we were told to draw 2 two point perspective drawing of the retail shop we were doing for our design 02 class.
I choose the activity area and the display area of my retail shop.
To draw the perspective views we needed to draw guide lines that exceeds A3 paper so that our perspective would fit to an A3 paper.
Activity Area.
This is the activity area of the retail shop with a futuristic style and sells congkak.
The weird table that you see is huge congkak.
I got a C+ for this drawing and rendering and was asked to improve on my rendering skills.
I also forgot to include human figures on this drawing which was part of this assignment.

Display Area.
This is the two point perspective view of the display area of the retail shop.
I received a C grade as the picture looks distorted, missing of the human figure, empty looking drawing and also because of my poor rendering.

Stories to be told

Story Board

Story board Drawing

The story board consists of 6 different two point perspective views of the Artist studio. Each view needs to have human figure and everything in the view needs to be drawn according to the guide lines in pencil.
Draft Of Story Board
All the 6 drawings are then traced into tracing paper using ink without the guide lines, just the furniture and the human figure. Then arrows are added to show the order of the story with also a brief description of the view under it.

Story Board
I got a C+ for this work and things i needed to improve was the human figure and not to draw too complicated arrows. Also to fill the empty spaces in the drawings.

Story board rendering

The story board is photo copied on to marker paper and rendered in it by using marker and pencil colour for details. We needed to choose a colour scheme for the Artist studio and I chose blue and brown for the wood.
Rendering of Story Board
I received a grade of C for this Rendering. It seems that i choose a lot of brown which confused the lecturer what my colour scheme was. I was also told to improve on my human figure and to apply the shade and shadow of objects correctly.

Back to basics

Sketching

Sketching interior Physical components

We were given to draw 9 chairs and 9 tables, that follows geometrical shapes like  cube, cuboid, cone, sphere and so on.
To draw these furniture we first had to draw the guide lines of the geometric shapes and draw the furniture along the guidelines. After drawing we needed to colour these furniture in colour pencil.
Chairs
While drawing these i tried to find interesting looking furnitures for both chairs and tables. The mistake i did when drawing these chairs was that i did not draw them facing front.

I received a grade of B- for the chairs and a B for the tables. I also got some comments for my tables drawing saying that i need to apply more colour and to darken the object shadow.

Tables

Sketching Human figures and plants

The next assignment given in sketching was to draw human figures and trees and to render in pencil colour. We were suppose to draw at least 5 human figures and trees.
Human figure and plants
We also added more details like the tiles and grass on the floor and also the clouds in the sky.
I was given a B for this work and received a few comments which said that the proportion of trees and human are good,  I need to improve in pencil colour rendering and need to put in more details

Model Making

Model making presentation and Photography.

Presentation board

To the given floor plan of the artist studio, we had to make a model including its furniture and roof.
I love model making though it takes a lot of time and concentration. The main challenge when making the model was to create the staircase, as the rising of the stair case need to be exactly 150. If its not very accurate, the staircase would not level with the mezzanine floor. Another challenge was to create the glass railing, as the plastic does not stick very well with UHU glue. The model was made in such a way that the roof, ceiling and two exterior walls can be removed so that the interior of the space can be easily visible .It took me altogether three nights to make the model.

After the model was done we took pictures of the model in the science lab where we could change the light settings easily. We were suppose to take pictures of 11 elevation, 1 from top view and 3 Interior perspectives. These 5 photos need to be edited with human figure where possible  and compiled together to create a presentation board.
Presentation Board
I got an A for this work and my comments include: "Nice photo composition", "lack of brief of project". I missed to write a brief of the artist studio which I totally forgot.

New Medium

orthographic projection

Presentation drawing

A presentation drawing had to be done for the orthographic projections of the Artist studio. We were suppose to include the floor plan and an Interior Elevation of the studio. The Drawings were traced into marker paper from our previous drawings and inked by free hand. We were taught a new method of drawing, I don't know the exact name of the method but I call it the "shaky hand method" :p by using this method it is very easy to control the lines and draw them straight.
after drawing we had to render the drawing with marker. I have never used marker and this was my first attempt.
Presentation drawing
Although marker pad is used for rendering with marker so that the markers don't bleed, it bled a lot for me. I had to redo it again and learned to control the marker. Although in this also there are few places that the marker has bled out of the lines. I received 7/10 for this work and the comments I received were: "Good techniques of sketches", "label the area in the plan" and "Improve the colour scheme"

A whole new challenge

Two point perspectives

Estimating Line method

This was a new method of drawing perspectives that we learned in this semester.
two point perspectives means that in this drawing there would be two vanishing points.

before drawing a two point perspective, we are need to draw a grid. To draw this grid first we have to draw a two parallel line for eye level and ground level.
Then we need to set two points on the eye level for vanishing points, and two other points named Station Vanishing Point a.k.a SVP.
A lot of lines had to be drawn from these points to form a grid and to minimise confusion we were told to use different coloured pens for different points.
After forming the grid we had to choose any view we wanted to draw form the floor plan and draw it on the grid. I chose the kitchen.
Draft of two point perspective
To draw the final drawing of the two point perspective, we had to resize the image to fit into A3 paper and to be traced back into tracing paper by ink.
Two point perspective
I got 6/10 due to lack of details in my furniture. I was advised to refer books for examples of detailing and also to improve my line quality.

Photograph method

the next method of drawing two point perspective was the photograph method. we were asked to find 5 pictures of two point perspective and our lecturer Ms. Norji selected  the 2 best pictures for each of us.
In this method, we had to find out where the vanishing points were of each picture and then draw the perspective view.
two point perspective
I received a B+ for my first drawing and a B for the next and I was told to improve my line quality in both of my drawings.

Exploding with pressure

Paraline Projections

Exploded drawing

After the sections and the interior elevation, we were given to draw an exploded drawing of the artist studio. Exploded drawings are never easy. You end up drawing so many lines and end up not knowing which line is which. To draw the construction line I had to erase so many times and redraw.
for this exploded drawing we were told to explode the drawing by dividing into 4 parts.
The most challenging part for me while drawing the exploded drawing was the staircase, Luckily i ended up drawing a nice and accurate staircase. (which took me 3 tries) Yaay mee!!
Draft of Exploded Drawing
the picture of the draft is not very clear as it has been drawn with a 3H pencil.
Exploded Drawing.
The final is drawn on a tracing paper with ink and is traced from the draft. I received 7/10 marks. The reason I lost 3 marks was, I didn't draw some dotted lines that had to be drawn. The dotted line shows where the exploded drawing has been divided from. I have also missed the drawings of the railing in the mezzanine floor.
This work ends all the orthographic projections for this semester.

More Drafting!!

Orthographic Projections

Sections

The next assignment given for us was to draw a section for the given floor plan. Section was also to be drawn in 1:50 scale. We needed to draw 2 sections from any where we wanted. From my previous drawings you can see the where I made the section cuts. one horizontal and one vertical.
before drawing the section I had no idea what a mezzanine floor was. I just thought it was a fancy name given to second floor. and here is my first attempt of drawing the section.

I did not realise I was doing wrong until miss Norji explained it to me. So I took another tracing paper place it on this and traced the ground floor, the parts I have done right and added the mezzanine floor. Below very faded you see the guidelines I drew for my second section and later traced back to a tracing paper and inked it.

This was my drawing of two sections Section A-A and Section B-B. I
received 6/10 for this. the things I have done wrong in this was forgetting to put minor technical details in the drawing. Like the circles in the labelling of grid lines and also the dimensions on top. I have also missed to draw some details on the floor.

Elevation.

After section came the drawing of the elevation. we were told to draw an interior elevation of the floor plan. this drawing was done on cartridge paper and pencil.
I got 6/10 for this work. I missed to draw some details and the dimensions of the drawings are not of the standard font size. I was also told to tidy up my drawing.

The first week of semester 2

Orthographic Drawings

Floor Plans

The semester began with learning to draw Orthographic drawings.
The first assignment was to draw a Floor Plan of a given artist studio.
It had to be drawn in scale of 1:50 with drafting equipments.
Ground Floor Plan

The artist studio consists of a living area, kitchen, studio, utility, bathroom and a sleeping area on the mezzanine floor.

I was absent for the briefing of this assignment as I was down with the flu during the first week of college.
This affected a lot while I tried to keep up with the coursework at home, as I was unable to clear the doubts that I had with the lecturer and this led to some mistakes in my drawing. Like, not knowing to draw the dotted lines on the staircase.

I got 6/10 for this assignment. Things I needed to improve according to my lecturer was to have different thickness of lines and also to improve quality of lines.

Mezzanine Floor plan
This is the drawing of the mezzanine floor of the artist studio. For this drawing I received 7/10 and was told to improve on my line quality.

The hardest part of this assignment was to complete the writings on the right column of the paper. It is much harder than it looks.

Reflected Ceiling Plan (R.C.P)

This work was also given on the first week, and had to be done at home and be submitted on the next class. This assignment was actually easier than the rest as the plan had to be traced form the previous floor plan, saving a lot of time by not having to measure an draw the guide lines. The ceiling plan is traced from the ground floor plan and the other ceiling details are added.

As I was absent for the brief of this assignment I really didn't know what was happening in the plan.
I have drawn a lot of floor plans before in my previous semester, but this was my first ceiling plan and I had no idea what I was doing.

It is quite embarrassing to admit that I got only 5/10 for this assignment. I have never gotten such low marks before.

The main reason for the low marks of this assignment was because of my line quality. I really have to improve my line quality. The plan needed to have dimensions and I missed that, as I just copied what was in the brief given, and I just copied as it was. That is also the reason why the name of the drawing is also wrong. However I should have known if we are drawing a plan we need to give the dimensions, hope to never make that same mistake again.
